Biography
Born the son of a Kiowa chief in Southwestern Oklahoma, Silver Horn was a gifted draftsman whose drawings documented the tumultuous changes that occurred to the Kiowa tribe in the late 1800s and early 1900s. His drawings also served to preserve something of the Kiowa heritage, carrying on the tradition of chronicling events on buffalo hide, but using cheap ledger book paper instead. His drawings illustrate buffalo hunts, the Kiowa’s struggles with the U.S. Cavalry, religious rites, and intertribal warfare.
