Robert Fletcher, both a scene and costume designer, grew up in the world of theatre, as his father was an actor. Since 1947, he has designed sets, costumes, and lighting for all manner of productions - from theatre, opera, ballet, film, and television, as well as ice shows.
Discussing design in an interview with Theatre Crafts (Aug/Sep 1982), Fletcher stated "There's no difference as far as I can tell between designing sets and costumes. Different techniques but all one problem. The problems of design are mass, line, and color. I feel that when you can handle those problems, you can apply them in any direction."
