In the early 1900s, as tourism increased in the Southwest, textiles became commercialized. Blankets evolved from a household necessity to a trading item for visitors. A blend of Spanish and indigenous patterns, Chimayó blankets range from the Rio Grande saltillo design to the Navajo serrated diamonds and Pueblo patterns of solid, alternating stripes.
