Further information
An admirer of Dutch painting of the 1600s and French Modernism, Liebermann favored everyday contemporary scenes in outdoor settings. The subject of children playing in the park under the watchful eyes of nurses shows the artist’s gift for composition and ability for capturing figure types and gestures with a few quick strokes of the brush.
Liebermann was an honored painter and cultural leader in Berlin and its Jewish community from the 1890s through the early 1930s. His highly successfully career ended with Hitler’s ascent to power in 1933, and more than a third of this works vanished during World War II.

Hi Stefan, While it is sometimes a challenge to ascertain a specific date for a painting, at this time, our documentation for this work does seem to point toward the date range that we have listed. Due to the ever-growing scholarship on Max Liebermann, it never hurts to revisit academic resources, including catalogue raisonnés. Thank you for your input!

The date seems to be wrong. Eberle 1897/29 has a similar composition.
