Further information
The McNay's impression of Danse Nocturne avec un Hibou is a color proof, an experiment with a unique and particularly beautiful color combination. Picasso first printed a block of solid black onto a cream-colored paper. On top of this black field, he printed the design block, with its outlines of frolicking dancers, in white. The combination of the black and white pigments creates the soft gray-blue that makes this print such a beautiful example of linoleum block printing.
