Further information
Cubism's emphasis on movement through space and time greatly influenced Nevinson's marvelous Returning to the Trenches. The repeated, rhythmic lines marching off to the right of the composition make the print an almost abstract essay in movement. Nevinson is usually referred to as a Cubo-futurist, an artist who combined Cubism with elements taken from Italian Futurism, a cultural and artistic movement that championed new technologies, speed, and industrialism.
