Further information
"mama is a work that pays homage to the essence of the female, to all mamas."
—Anastasia Pelias
Anastasia Pelias’ artworks span painting, drawing, video, sculpture, and installation, and are united through a cultural identity that combines her birthplace, Louisiana, and her ancestral roots in Greece. With a central rounded recess and horn-like projections, mama recalls the Horns of Consecration from the palace of Knossos, an archeological site on the island of Crete in Greece. The horn motif was a common religious symbol in Minoan culture on Crete.
