A burlesque entertainer who was born in Chicago, Loie Fuller (1862-1928) became famous in Paris at the Folies Bergère. In this lithograph, Toulouse-Lautrec captured her unusual approach to dance, which involved manipulating veils of drapery to simulate movement. Rotating colored stage lights created striking visual effects.
