Further information
Three nude female figures, perhaps bathers, dominate a blue expanse. Compressed and overlapping, one figure squats low, one faces the viewer, and a third gestures in profile as if conversing. Angular features, tonal contrasting colors, and an oblong composition unify the figures.

Max Weber traveled from New York to Paris in 1904 and studied with artists Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Rousseau. While in Paris, he witnessed the beginning stages of Cubism, an artistic movement characterized by fractured viewpoints and abstracted forms. Weber returned to the United States in 1909 and remained interested in Cubism for the remainder of his artistic career.
