Further information
Dorothy Dehner studied printmaking with Stanley William Hayter at his legendary Atelier 17 in New York. Like Hayter, Dehner often combined different intaglio techniques to create wonderfully complex abstract works like this etching and aquatint. This beautiful impression not only is a welcome addition to the McNay’s group of mid-century American prints, but also provides some interesting context for works in the collection by the sculptor David Smith, to whom Dehner was married from 1927 to 1952.
