Further information
Irish Whisky is one of Laboureur’s masterpiece. Very closely related to Georges Braque's still life compositions like Pale Ale (see 1979.24), this beautifully printed engraving shows an abstracted cafe scene. An Irish whiskey bottle is at the center of the composition, flanked by the masthead of a newspaper, a corkscrew, glasses (see from the top and the side), and a bottle of Bass Pale Ale, identified by a small triangle, one of the world's oldest registered trademarks. A bottle of Bass also figures prominently in Braque's Pale Ale.
