Okay Mountain is a nine-member artist collective based in Austin, Texas. Working in a variety of media -- sculpture, installation, video, and photography -- their projects humorously critique consumer culture and its effect on modern life. The Prototypes series presents everyday objects in striking combinations that suggest unexpected narratives and associations. Dramatically staged and lit, the images model the aesthetics of commercial photography, seductively highlighting the forms and textures of otherwise mundane objects. Appearing like magazine advertisements awaiting taglines or stills from late-night infomercials, the images pose many questions about commodification and desire.
