Further information
Though firmly in the Expressionist camp, Campendonk was clearly inflluenced by Cubism. His bucolic watercolor, Shepherdesses, is organized by strong diagonal lines that hold the composition together, beautifully framing the figures at the center of the image. These lines combined with brilliant color enliven the watercolor and make it seem like we are viewing the scene through a prism.
