Further information
New Orleans artist Robert Gordy is best known for his acrylic paintings featuring geometric forms, pattern, and repetition. In a playful, tongue-in-cheek manner, Gordy places the repeating cushions and female figures in a way that emphasizes the visual similarities of their forms. Evident here is the influence of Henri Matisse’s paintings of curvilinear nudes, in which women are carefully posed in elaborate interiors like objects in a still life.
