Further information
In this updated production set in the mid-1800s, Loquasto struck a balance between the Middle ages and the industrial age. Faust's study suggests the origins of modern chemistry in medieval alchemy, the quest to transmute base matter into gold, and to gain utlimate knowledge. The German scholar's long robe and hat resemble today's academic regalia, dating back to the universities of the 1100s-1500s.
