Further information
Claes Oldenburg is a celebrated Pop artist known for transforming everyday objects in sculpture. Miniature Soft Drum Set, with its deflated forms and frayed edges, is representative of the artist’s soft sculptures made with nonrigid materials. The malleable surfaces in soft sculpture provide a new way to perceive familiar forms that are not only static, but perhaps also fixed in the imagination. The imploding drums are open to metaphor and new readings. If these drums could be played, what sounds would we hear? What mood would they evoke?
