Further information
For Giuseppe Verdi's version of Shakespeare's tragedy, O'Brien created a monumental architectural space that functioned both as a palace interior and a town square (note the different floor patterns). Fluted columns established the Mediterranean setting and echoed the magnitude of Otello's fall from power, precipitated by his nemesis Iago and ending in the murder of his beloved wife Desdemona.
