Further information
Eastman's second Texas assignment was near Uvalde at Camp Leona (later named Fort Inge), established around the time of his arrival. His wife wrote to a friend describing the Captain's post,"[Eastman] was at one of the posts of the 1st on the Leona River, 75 miles west of San Antonio, a post beautifully situated but extremely lonely...From Capt's account I should think rattlesnakes were the principal inhabitants of that delightful region.."
