Further information
Conditions for the early settlers were extremely harsh due to the lack of sufficient provisions and the isolated location of the settlement. Life in Fredericksburg improved with the arrival of the army who established trade routes and employed local residents. In this homestead, the front cabin is extended with two subsequent additions. A woman feeds her chickens in front of the house, and hay is piled high for winter behind the fence on the left.
