Further information
Indian Point, whose name changed to Indianola in February 1849, was a relatively new port at the time of Eastman's arrival. The quartermaster depot at Indianola, an army supply hub, provided goods from the east coast to the entire line of frontier posts established by the U.S. Army. The depot would have outfitted Eastman and his company for their march to San Antonio.
