Eastman's arrival on the Texas coast had a dramatic ending. After steaming for four days from the Southwest Pass, Eastman wrote this note on a hastily sketched map of the bay: "Arrived in Matagorda Bay on 5th Nov. 48 - day after the danger of being wrecked."
