Further information

Puccini began work on Turandot in 1920 when Chu Chin Chow was breaking records for the longest running musical. Like Puccini's opera, Chu Chin Chow was inspired by a story from the so-called Arabian Nights, Ali-Baba and the Forty Thieves. The musical also brought together characters and costumes from the Silk Road, linking the Arabian Peninsula and China.
