Further information
The McNay's sketchbook picks up Eastman's journey near Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, an area originally settled by French Canadians. In addition to carrying passengers, steamboats took on cargo like furs, cotton, coffee, crops, and any other desirable trade good. Eastman captures a view of an important landing called Little Rock, one mile north of Sainte Genevieve, showing a residence and warehous buildings built close to the river.
