The 1940's Radio Hour is set in "the seedy studios of WOV, a 5,000 watt local New York City radio station" in the Hotel Astor on Broadway between 44th and 45th streets. The action takes place before, during, and after the broadcast of "The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade" for December 21, 1942.

This show's nostalgic tribute to the popular music of World War II includes "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "I'll Be Seeing You." These classics are performed by WOV regulars including Johnny Cantone, a Sinatra-style crooner, and Ginger Brooks, a Betty Grable look-alike.
