As a costume and set designer, Natalia Gontcharova was inspired by stage productions in her artistic practice. The Snow Maiden is a coming-of-age love story in which personifications of nature and the seasons interact with human characters. This artwork titled Winter illustrates the embodiment of the season crossing a frozen landscape with palms raised to catch snowflakes.
